Deutsche Telekom is one of the world’s leading integrated telecommunications companies, with some 151 million mobile customers, 30 million fixed-network lines, and more than 17 million broadband lines.

We provide fixed-network/broadband, mobile communications, Internet, and IPTV products and services for consumers, and information and communication technology (ICT) solutions for business and corporate customers.

Deutsche Telekom is present in more than 50 countries. With a staff of some 228,000 employees throughout the world, we generated revenue of 62.7 billion Euros in the 2014 financial year, over half of it outside Germany.*

So that we can continue to be successful, we are already evolving from a traditional telephone company into an entirely new kind of service company. Our core business, i.e., the operation and sale of networks and connections, remains the basis. But at the same time we are proactively committing to business areas that open up new growth opportunities for us.

More data, more speed
The gigabit society, in which high-speed Internet is taken for granted both at home and on the move, has fundamentally changed the way we communicate. Internet applications have long become an indispensable part of everyday life. We can download films from the Web, watch soccer games on our cell phones, send photographs and video files from our smartphones and share them with our friends via social networks. In technical terms, this means that ever greater volumes of data need to be transported at ever higher speeds.

A single source
This calls for a Telekom that brings all these elements together and offers customers a fixed network, mobile communications, and IPTV from a single source. And a Telekom that ensures secure storage and access to all private data, wherever the user may be and whatever type of device they are using.

But it also calls for ever more efficient networks. Deutsche Telekom can build these networks, which will not only cover skyrocketing demand for broadband in the future, but are also intelligent enough to open up new business areas to entire industries, such as the energy sector, healthcare, or the automotive industry.
We are investing more in this than any other provider in Germany – more than 23 billion euros overall between 2010 and 2015.

Our corporate customers arm, T-Systems, which already offers combined information and communication technology (ICT) service solutions for SMEs, multinational corporations and public-sector institutions with a global infrastructure of data centers and networks, is ideally positioned for these new challenges.

Sustainable on principle
But there’s more to it than that. Over the next few years, important social drivers will develop which Deutsche Telekom intends to be a part of. Given our understanding of responsible corporate governance, this is a logical and necessary step.

We believe that economic, social and ecological perspectives can be reconciled. Sustainability underpins all of our business activities. The fact that we are the first DAX-30 company to introduce a quota for women in management, or that we cover our entire power requirements in Germany from regenerative sources are just two examples of this. In other words, we have a clearly defined objective: We want to be a business enterprise that delights its customers, creates value for its investors and in which employees enjoy their work.
